FAQs

  • This is a small but perfectly formed professional ceramics workshop with capacity to absorb small-batch pottery wheel production.

There are two pottery wheels, several work stations/benches, and a dedicated glazing station.

The kiln has volumetric capacity of approx. 120 litres, with a diameter of 56 cm and a height of 43 cm. We typically run her 3-4 times a month (more often at busy times of year).

You will have access to all the necessary equipment and tools to facilitate your ceramics practice. And, of course, I am always around to provide any technical guidance or support you may need.

  • As a minimum, the studio is usually open from 10am to 6pm Monday-Saturday. But, if you would prefer to come in in the evenings and weekends, this can be arranged.

We are a small but happy, community of potters, so we keep it simple and communicative and organise ourselves according to each other’s needs and schedules.

*Do note though that Wednesdays are often a busy day as this when I do the majority of my teaching. So if you prefer it to be quiet - this is not the day for you!

  • In general, no. However, we all know that life can sometimes get in the way of our very best intentions.

So if this happens to you, due to unforeseen circumstances - let’s talk.

*Typically, it should be possible to allow a grace period of about a week for any unspent hours be used, as long as this is to finish rather than to start new work.

  • No problem. As long as the studio has capacity, you’re very welcome to renew early for another month. You also have the flexibility to switch to hourly rate if that is more convenient.

  • No.

To give you maximum creative freedom to choose clays, glazes and not worry about the dimensions of your pieces these are calculated separately.

Studio glazes and a wide selection of high-fire stoneware clays are available for purchase at the studio.

Kiln costs are calculated based on the volume of individual pieces.

  • No. But a wide selection of high quality stoneware clays are available for purchase at the studio.

If a clay you love to work with is not available, you can let me know and we can look into the possibility of sourcing some for you.

  • Yes. But only if you have substantial prior experience of doing so and/or take my Introduction to Glazing course.

Glaze materials are available for purchase at the studio and may not be brought in by individual potters.

There will be a small extra monthly charge for storage if you wish to mix a bucket of glaze and keep it at the studio.

  • Yes and, also, no. Of course if your pot flops on the wheel, you are welcome to dry out the clay on a plaster batt and then pop it in your bucket to throw again next time you come in to the studio.

However, the studio simply does not have capacity for multiple reclaim buckets. Instead, we have two general studio reclaim bins for throwing slip, trimmings etc. - one for light clay and one for dark.

The careful curation of the clays which we use in the studio, ensures that the quality and consistency of this reclaimed clay remains high, allowing us to reduce waste and to keep reusing it meaningfully to create beautiful work.
